STAY IN YOUR LANE

STAY IN YOUR LANE.

I live in Lagos. I guess you can take that to mean that I live a slightly chaotic life.

Traffic in the past one week has been horrendous. If you didn't hear, where have you been? It's been so bad that two of my children's schools have sent memos changing closing time to an earlier one to enable the kids beat traffic. 🙈

But that is not the point of this post.

I mentioned traffic because I was going somewhere.

You know how when you're driving, as soon as you switch lanes, the one you switched from suddenly starts moving faster? 😭

This also happens at Supermarket tills. And basically anywhere there is a queue.

It's got to be the most frustrating thing ever!

Sociologists and Psychologists, please help me with the name of this phenomenon. It's something worth researching on, if there is no name for it yet.

Today, I want to give a simple message - STAY IN YOUR LANE.

So, what does it mean to "Stay In Your Lane"?

It means, in Nigerian parlance, to "Focus on your focus". It means to "Mind your business", find your pathway to greatness and stay the course!

You see, many motivational speakers thrill us with the talks of finding your purpose. They make it feel like if you haven't found your purpose, you should stop existing. Purpose is all well and good, but it takes time to become clear.

I'll say find your strengths and giftings. And remember, it doesn't have to be one thing.

So I'm good at writing and I have great organisation skills.

I cannot sing to save my life.

Will I say that because Tiwa Savage is making money from singing, I should try it out? No way! I would be a huge flop.

I have to stay in my writing and architecture lane and find value around those two.

Now, to every rule there is an exception. So I think it is only fair that I list the exceptions to this rule.

Do NOT stay in your "lane" if:

1. You are not experiencing fulfilment. You will know it.

2. You are not growing. Living things must grow. You are not a tree. If you are not growing, please move.

3. You are being abused. This needs no further explanation.

4. You gain some clarity on a new course to chart. Test the spirit, discuss it with God. And make the move!

How then do you know WHEN to Stay in your Lane?

It's quite simple.

Today, think of yourself at 70years. Where would you like to be? What would you like to have achieved? Write itdown in as many details as you can. This is vision board for your life.

This is your life goal.

Now if anything you're doing now is not pointing towards that goal, you are not in your lane! Simple!

Cheers to Ugolee Emmanuel on the launch of his book "100 Random light bulbs". He has found his lane and is blossoming. Get a copy of the book and find yours.

It's another Monday! Here's to your success 🥂🥂
